# 2FA Service
## The 2FA Service generates one-time PINs, delivers them to the user and verifies the code they enter — so you don't have to build PIN generation, expiry and attempt-limiting yourself.
The 2FA Service generates one-time PINs, delivers them to the user and verifies the code they enter — so you don't have to build PIN generation, expiry and attempt-limiting yourself.
**Channels**SMS, voice and email delivery.
**Configurable**PIN length, type, time-to-live and attempt limits.
**Rate limits**Per application and per phone number.
**Verify**One call to check the code and status.
## How it works
1. **Create an application** — the rules for one use case (e.g. registration or password reset): attempts, TTL, rate limits.
2. **Create a message template** — the text containing ``, PIN length/type and sender.
3. **Send a PIN** to the user's number or email; you receive a `pinId`.
4. **Verify** the code the user enters against the `pinId`.

NoteFor OTPs on WhatsApp, use an **Authentication** template with a copy-code or one-tap button. Combine with [Signals](https://knowledgebase.phonovation.com/messaging-whatsapp/phono-msg-signals?hsLang=en) to block SMS pumping fraud on OTP traffic.
